Deal Breakers When Buying a Home

The Ask This Old House team discusses a few items house hunters might discover in a home that could cost them thousands of dollars to repairs.

According to the latest Beacon Appraisal report, we're seeing an uptick in home prices across both the Bend and Redmond markets. Interestingly, this seems tied more to higher-end properties selling faster while lower-priced homes linger, likely due to how current interest rates are impacting buying power. Rates remain high, making affordability a challenge, but buyer motivation is slowly returning—many are tired of waiting on the sidelines. On the flip side, sellers are jumping back in, with listing inventory rising sharply and more options now available for active buyers. This has shifted the dynamic toward a more buyer-friendly market, increasing competition among sellers. In such a volatile environment, it's crucial to have a trusted expert to help you make sense of the shifts and stay ahead of the curve. If you’re thinking about making a move this summer—or just have questions—don’t hesitate to reach out. I'm here to help you navigate every step. - Greg
